I recently attended a seminar where Tristan Walker, Founder of Bevel, spoke. during his talk he mentioned how his business efforts had been thwarted in the past because he was working on problems that needed to be solved, but not necessarily the ones that he was uniquely suited to solve. He found success when he asked himself the right question, which was, "why am I the best person in the world to solve this particular problem".
You may be wondering how this applies to networking. When I work with clients the first thing I have them do is a goal setting exercise. During this session I ask them what do they really want out of life? Surprisingly, many do not know how to answer that question, so I redirect them by asking what is the one thing you do better than anyone else in the world. That is your superpower!
Quite often we discount this discovery because we think we can't possibly make any money doing THAT! But as Tristan profoundly said in his talk, "Somebody invented Toilet Paper".
Once you've discovered your true superpower, you will become so passionate about what you are doing that everything else will fall in place. Your superpower will give you an automatic advantage over everyone else trying to do what you do.
Additionally, once you begin focusing on your unique advantage, you will find that people will appear in your life to help you along the way. If you know what your superpower is, let us know in the comments.
